The Future of the Bell

“Following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use” the Post Office says the Bell will be closing ‘temporarily’ on Thursday 18 August at 1700.

The Post Office says it is “investigating the options available which will enable us to reinstate a Post Office service to the local community. In exploring this, it is important that any future service is sustainable for the person operating the service, and for Post Office Limited.”

The owners of the Bell, the Stonegate Pub Group, claim to be the largest pub group in the UK with over 4,500 sites. They have submitted a planning application for internal re-furbishment and a wooden structure in the car park and should make their plans for the pub clear soon.
