Beware Intruders!

Warwickshire Police report that over a couple of days at the end of June a number of householders in Tanworth, Earlswood and Hockley Heath suddenly became aware of masked intruders in the kitchens of their homes.

All the events took place in early evening and the intruder or intruders in each case made off in a black car of some sort.

Please be careful not to leave back doors unlocked and report any suspicious circumstances to 999.

Watch out for Lead Thieves!

The Police advise that there has been a spate of thefts of lead from churches in the West Midlands.

Insomniacs and other residents are asked to keep a look out during the night for people behaving suspiciously in the vicinity of the church and to dial 999 if they believe the theft of roof lead is in progress.

Replacing lead after a theft is an expensive business and insurance does not always cover the full amount of replacement.

Warning: Rogue Tradesmen

Warwickshire County Council would like to draw the attention of residents to the actions of so called tradesmen who are cold calling, offering to remove moss from roof tiles.

An elderly customer who doesn’t wish to be named has been charged £2000 for this ‘service’. If she didn’t pay cash tshe was told hey would have to charge her more + Vat. They even went back for a tip!

If you see any elderly or vulnerable neighbours with ‘tradesmen’ working at their homes, be nosey! You can do it tactfully. And if in doubt, contact the Police .

Know About Future Planning Applications

Stratford-on-Avon District Council has launched an online tool which has been designed to help residents access information on any new planning applications within their neighbourhoods.

This new tool will send email alerts to anyone who has registered via the Council’s website notifying them of any planning applications which have been registered with the Council and which fall within the selected geographical area.

This new tool will not replace the press and site notices: it is being introduced to supplement the existing arrangements. It will be an additional method of communicating which, it is hoped, will be more reliable and immediate for all those who register.

To register please use the following link:

New System for Neighbourhood Watch Alerts

At a Neighbourhood Watch meeting in Stratford we were advised that a new Community Messaging System was being developed and should be going live soon – that was in spring 2015.

Warwickshire Police say the system is now Live and residents are asked to register even if they have already registered under the old system.

At present both old and new are running alongside each other but the old system may be phased out very soon and your previously registered details cannot be transferred.

Residents will also be asked to confirm annually that they wish to continue receiving crime information.

The new system enables residents to select which area or areas they are interested in receiving crime information about and also how often they wish to receive this information by way of e-mail messages.  You can choose  to receive messages as they are sent or daily or weekly.  You can also select the message type and which localities interest you.  You may consider crimes committed  across the county boundary in Beoley  more relevant to you than those in North Warwickshire as Warwickshire and West Mercia (Worcestershire) police forces work closely now.

To register for the Community Messaging Service please click here.

Village Fibre Broadband Available

BT Openreach has finally managed to blow the fibre cable through the ducts down Vicarage Hill.

They appear to have completed the splicing of the fibres and connect the green cabinet at the corner of Bellfield to the exchange.

Although BT is advertising that Fibre is available now, there are conflicting reports of how available it is.

BEWARE Some residents have had orders accepted by suppliers and then cancelled.

The organisation responsible for implementing the government scheme is called cswBroadband .  For more details including maps of the areas being improved can be found at:

www.cswbroadband.org.uk

Possible Savings on Oil and LPG?

If you use oil or LPG it may be time to start thinking about the cost of your heating as autumn approaches.

Warwickshire Rural Community Council organises a scheme whereby they say their members saved £58.80 per 1000 litres against the average market price, paying just 55.75 pence per litre of heating oil.

How does this compare with your supplier?   WRCC says its bulk LPG members are saving between £150 and £260 a year and the scheme claims to offer great savings and free delivery on LPG cylinders.

If you would like to find out more about possibly reducing the cost of your heating oil or making a saving on your LPG please email oil@wrccrural.org.uk or call Sarah Brook-Taylor on 01789 472611.
